Matt is a 21 year old film buff and recent graduate from The University of Rhode Island. Growing up in a small town in the smallest state, Matt began developing a taste in film and general geekdom at a young age. After years of watching various DC and Marvel animated television shows as a boy, Matt has become quite the afficinado in the realm of comic books. Towards the end of middle school, Matt began delving into the world of film by watching anything he could get his hands on. Nowadays, his tastes range from classic film noir and the mindbending works of David Cronenberg to the latest trends on the independent scene. Don't worry; he's still one for the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or DC animated adventure. Comics aren't the only source of literature Matt enjoys. He can sometimes be spotted reading the works of Stephen King or even the plays of William Shakespeare. As an aspiring film critic and screenwriter, Matt is always looking for inspiration and new ideas.

Movie Review: ‘Pan’

Pan is certainly not the first film to expand on the world of Neverland. We live in a world where Hollywood constantly churns out prequels and reboots. I can’t say that I was surprised when I heard about a prequel…

TV Review: Gotham 2×03 “The Last Laugh”

Despite my initial skepticism, I have thoroughly enjoyed these first few episodes of Gotham’s second season. My further investment in this season will definitely be put to the test now that a key component of my enjoyment is apparently gone.…

Movie Review: ‘Pawn Sacrifice’

Pawn Sacrifice, the latest biopic centered on a brilliant but unstable individual, captures an interesting period in American history. During the Cold War, central character Bobby Fischer was just as much a pawn as any of his eight chess pieces.…

TV Review: The Player-“Pilot”

The pilot for NBC’s The Player reminded me of trying to play checkers with chess pieces. The rules are still the same on paper and you can find some enjoyment out of it. Ultimately though, it works much better with…

TV Review: Gotham Season 2 Premiere – “Damned If You Do…”

Throughout its first season, Gotham was plagued with an identity crisis. The show struggled with maintaining a consistent tone and a plethora of characters. Many episodes followed the “villain of the week” format of cop procedurals albeit in a pulpy…

Movie Review: ’90 Minutes in Heaven’

Although it’s centered around a fascinating true story, 90 Minutes in Heaven is plagued by an uneventful and padded out two hours. That title is actually quite misleading, especially as someone who was unfamiliar with the real life story. Only…
