Fans of Orson Scott Card’s hugely popular sci-fi novel ‘Ender’s Game’ have been waiting years for this adaptation to be filmed, but now they are going to have to wait a little longer with the film now due to be released in theaters eight months later than originally planned.

Directed by Gavin Hood, Ender’s Game was originally set to be released on March 15, 2013, but according to The Hollywood Reporter that date has now been moved back to November 1, 2013. It is a very strange move as this new release date will pit Ender’s Game against The Hunger Games sequel, ‘Catching Fire’ in the box office. The two films will be released within 3 weeks of each other, and given that Ender’s Game is being made by Summit, which is now tied to Lionsgate the studio in charge of The Hunger Games, I’m suspecting that this move isn’t permanent. Perhaps fans will have to wait even longer for this film to be released.

The pushback could possibly give the filmmakers more time to perfect the film, which is a plus, but if fans flock to see Catching Fire and leave Ender’s Game for a later viewing on Netflix then perfect film or not, there will be no sequel.

Ender’s Game is currently shooting in Louisiana, starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford and Viola Davis.
