The amazing TV show Arrested Development, which ran from 2003-2006 and was then (in my opinion unnecessarily) cancelled in 2006 has been awaiting a return for quite a while and that time has finally come. After cancellation, many fans became angry and demanded they bring the show come back. After ending, the show gained a huge cult following. In the last episode of the show, “Development Arrested”, the idea of making the characters lives a movie was suggested towards the episode’s end. The star of the show, actor Jason Bateman revealed in 2008 that creator of the show, Mitchell Hurwitz and the series unaccredited narrator/ executive producer, Ron Howard were both trying to get Arrested Development: The Movie in the works of being made. After many speed bumps in the process, two major things have been confirmed: the entire major cast of the show will return for a movie and as announced on April 18, 2012, there will be a 10 episode fourth season on Netflix in early 2013 with the movie following the end of the season. It is unclear if it is still the case, but it 2009, Bateman was quoted as saying, “It will be simple. We’ll shoot it in probably six weeks. It will get a little release. It will be in and out, done…No one is going to overreach with this film at all…It is not being done at big Fox, it is being done at Fox Searchlight. It’s going to be a small effort”. But, the fan reach seems to have grown since 2009, so maybe the film will be larger than orignally expected.

Arrested Development cast in 2011

The bottom line is that after watching this show which  is incredibly clever, entertaining, riotously funny, and by far one of the best shows I have ever watched is that it is worth waiting for a new season and a movie. While waiting for the movie or if you want to watch a fantastic new show, I definitely suggest watching Arrested Development. There are 53 episodes all of which are avalible on Netflix Instant. 53 may seem like a lot, but once you get hooked, they go by fast.
