Featured News Television TV News — 20 September 2012

There’s nothing like a good debate. The topics, the responses, the comebacks, and the insults subtly thrown at the dueling combatants are just a few of the things that people look forward to when debate season comes up. For the pop culture/comedy world, this time of year is ripe for political parodies.  So what happens when you put a Fox News juggernaut in the same room with a Daily Show dynamo?  You get a one night only, pay-per-view style debate titled “The Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium.”

Yes, it’s true. The Daily Show’s lead anchor and political funnyman, Jon Stewart, will go mano a mano against Fox News personality and die hard conservative, Bill O’Reilly on October 6th at 8pm E.T.  The debate will be held at George Washington University, but there’s no need to take a road trip. People will be able to watch the live streamed debate by purchasing a ticket for $4.95 (half of the proceeds will go to charity). For anybody who purchases their tickets before Oct. 1st, they will be able to send in questions for the dueling combatants to duke out.

People who are avid fans of either The Daily Show or The O’Reilly Factor (or who are fans of both, I don’t judge) will know that this won’t be the first time these two have debated. In fact, in previous times where both men faced off there has been a lot of playfulness between the two and sometimes they’ve even agreed upon certain issues. So if you’re looking for a verbal bloodbath when the two TV personalities enter the proverbial ring, you probably won’t get one, although O’Reilly jokingly stated on his show that there would be EMTs nearby should their verbal sparring evolve into a physical one. It’s pretty clear O’Reilly and Stewart will steer far away from the jugular (sorry folks), but the show is for charity and with an intense election season going on right now, watching a debate like this might be a great way to get your mind off the political imbroglio that’s been occurring lately. Never fear, because both men know how to put on an entertaining, thought-provoking  show and for a 90 min. debate,  you’re really getting a bang for your buck.

If you’re interested in learning more or purchasing tickets for the live stream debate you can head over to Rumble 2012’s Facebook page.

Are you looking forward to the debate? Will you buy a ticket? Or will you wait patiently until someone rips the debate and puts it on Youtube
