TV News: Emmys 2013 Nominations Are Here!

65th_emmy_awards

The 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were just announced on Thursday morning. Aaron Paul and this year’s Emmys host Neil Patrick Harris was on hand to announce the nominations.

American Horror Story: Asylum leads with 17 nominations. House of Cards set a record for being the first online series to be nominated with 9 nominations, including Best Drama. For the most part, there weren’t many surprises, Shows like Breaking Bad, Homeland and Modern Family mostly got the nominations they usually get. However, Kerry Washington finally nabbed a nod for Lead Actress. Game of Thrones fans will be happy to see that not only did they get Best Drama, but nominations in supporting acting categories for Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke.

But as always, there are major snubs… Jake Johnson, a favorite among critics and fans, didn’t get nominated for his hilarious work in New Girl. In fact, New Girl was completely snubbed; the usual nods for Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield were absent this year. Another critic and fan favorite is Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany. After winning the Critics Choice for Lead Actress, it seemed likely that Maslany would get a nod for her incredible (I seriously mean INCREDIBLE) performances in BBC America’s show. Unfortunately, the very packed Lead Actress in the Drama category ran out of room. Finally, FX’s The Americans, a show everyone believed would get a ton of Emmy love, was snubbed out of the major categories. Margo Martindale (who plays Claudia) was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, the only major nod for the acclaimed drama.

The Emmys will air live on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on CBS.
