Today is a BIG day for news headlines, but the one headline that I can’t get out of my mind is a fantastic piece of bookish news. Rory Power, author of the instant New York Times bestseller Wilder Girls (read my rave review here) will be releasing a second book with Delacorte Press this upcoming July 2020. Read below for the first glimpse of the synopsis of Burn Our Bodies Down, which has just propelled its way up to #1 on my most anticipated reads list this upcoming year.
BURN OUR BODIES DOWN will take readers on a thrilling ride following Margot, a girl whose past has always been a mystery until she decides to return to her mother’s hometown. Stuck in a run-down apartment in the Middle of Nowhere, Margot has spent her whole life trying to get closer to her secretive, mercurial mother. She thinks she’s found the key when she discovers the name of her mother’s hometown: Phalene, still the home of Margot’s grandmother. But Phalene is also home to a hundred secrets, hidden beneath the floorboards of Gram’s sprawling farmhouse, buried under the golden cornfields. And if Margot’s not careful, she’ll end up buried there, too.
In a tweet from Rory Power that followed up on the press release announcement from her publisher, she wrote that the book is deeply personal and about learning to let go. She wrote that readers can expect, “Grandmother/mother/daughter angst, a lesbian main character who stays single because people are weird, fake science and apparently, a LOT of corn.”
From the sound of it, this book will be just as atmospheric and gorgeous as Power’s debut. Is it July yet?
