NYCC 2012: Pantheon Books, OSSM Comics, Random House Audio

Yes, there are comic books and novels at NYCC- key word being comic. I got to interview several people at the convention, including people from Random House Audio, Pantheon Books and OSSM Comics.

First up, Rachel Tripp from Random House Audio was there talking about their audio books.

“I’m Rachel Tripp and I’m here with Random House Audio. Promoting different audio books, like how we have a lot of different adult and children audio books- and today we’re featuring Star Wars. We’re doing a bunch of other audio books which are pretty cool. We’re featuring a narration project where people can be a narrator can come and record one of 4 clips from Heir to the Empire, which is a Star Wars extended universe. So people can come and they can do their cool Star Wars character voices and we’ll send recordings back after the show so you can hear what you sound like and kind of get that professional narrator experience.”

Also at NYCC 2012 was Josephine Collins, a publicist from Pantheon Books. Here’s what she said:

“We work on all sorts of novels- we do lots of classics like Art Spiegelman’s Maus and Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis, and this fall we’re publishing new ones including The Hive by Charles Burns, which is the second of his series of X’ed out, we’ve also got Chris Ware’s new book Building Stories, that essentially is a box with lots of beautiful objects inside. We’ve got Chip Kidd’s Batman which is an old classic American as well. Last year, we published Art Spiegelman’s Metamaus which is sort of a look back on the genesis of Maus, and why he decided to write about the Holocaust, why he chose mice as the subject and it’s complete with a DVD of the entire complete Maus, so it’s a really cool package. X’ed Out was a series and The Hive just came out on sale this month and I believe there’s going to be a third book as well, so that should be exciting.”

Lastly, Omar Schlavhaven of OSSM Comics was there, talking about his new creation, Xenoglyphs.

“I’m Omar Schlavhaven, writer and creator of OSSM Comics and Xenoglyphs, which is about these 9 different elemental stones, and each one has its own power- earth , wind, water, fire,  light, darkness, plants etc, and what’s unique about it is that it takes place in the real world and goes back through history and explains history and conspiracies and stuff like that.
