With the Ratchet and Clank feature film fast approaching, fans of the Playstation exclusive franchise are brushing up on their favorite games in preparation. From their first outing on the PS2 back in 2002, to their most recent adventures on the Playstation 4, this beloved sci-fi duo has been blasting their way into our hearts for over a decade now. However, said franchise from acclaimed creators Insomniac Games isn’t the only Playstation franchise people have been hoping to get a movie out of. While the majority of game adaptation flicks aren’t very good, there still exists a vast universe of titles to explore than could prove to be great adventures on the silver screen. So, let’s explore five other Sony franchises that would make for fantastic, or at the very least fun, film adaptations.
5. Resistance
Created by “Ratchet and Clank” developer Insomniac Games, “Resistance: Fall of Man” was a launch title for the Playstation 3 that centered around an alien invasion in 1950’s Europe. Set in an alternate timeline where World War II never happened, Russia is suddenly hit with an alien virus that turns humans into alien hybrids known as the Chimera. However, when the alien virus and its incoming chimera forces reach the shores of England, Sargent Nathan Hale unexpectedly survives the virus infection and gains new-found abilities thanks to the alien DNA mixing with his own.
Sure, alien movies have been done to death in the past, but if the success of 10 Cloverfield Lane indicates anything, it’s that an alien invasion movie done extremely well can still exist. Not only does the story leave a lot to be explored in a cinematic universe, but it would definitely be a breath of fresh air to see an extraterrestrial invasion happen outside the United States. With the franchise laying dormant since the mixed reception of “Resistance: Burning Skies” in 2012, it’s time Sony explore the universe further in film fashion.

4. Twisted Metal
A car combat video game may not sound like the best thing to make into a movie, but that’s never solely been what “Twisted Metal” is about. With a demonic serial killer named Sweet Tooth being the series’ icon since the beginning, “Twisted Metal” has always had a sick, twisted (see what I did there?) sense of humor about it, coming straight from the mind of creator David Jaffe. The 2012 reboot of the franchise to the Playstation 3 would likely serve as the best narrative choice if “Twisted Metal” were to become a film, as the story centers around a group of murderous psychopaths fighting their way through a bloodbath car combat tournament to appease the mysterious Calypso, who promises one wish granted to the champion.

3. LittleBigPlanet
Okay, so “LittleBigPlanet” isn’t popular because it has a fantastic narrative behind it, it’s such a well established franchise because of the game-play elements. Allowing players to craft the levels they want to their heart’s content, it may seem a bit impossible to turn this beloved game into a film. However, with Sony distributing an Angry Birds movie this summer, would it really be that difficult to create a story around the adventures of the beloved Sackboy and his friends? Imagine if Sony Pictures Animation decided to start creating a “LittleBigPlanet” movie in the near future, you can’t deny you’d be a little excited to see how it turned out.

2. Infamous
What better time to make another superhero movie than now? With Marvel dominating the superhero scene, and DC trying to play catch up, it’s about time we get a fresh face in scene where there are more Batman movies than soap opera television shows. Since Sony hasn’t had the best of luck with their Spiderman franchise, thanks to the disappointing results of Amazing Spiderman 2, “Infamous” could be a great place to start in building an original superhero franchise.
1. Uncharted
Sure, Lara Croft may have had her adventures into film territory, but nothing could compare to seeing Nathan Drake finally making his way to the silver screen. Developed by acclaimed studio Naughty Dog, “Uncharted” follows the exploits of fortune hunter Nathan Drake as he travels the globe in search of the world’s most mysterious artifacts. With “Uncharted 4” set to be the final release into the franchise, it would be amazing to see one last hurrah out of Drake in a movie. With the studio in talks with actually making some kind of “Uncharted” feature, only time will tell if this actually becomes a reality.
