E3 2016: Electronic Arts

It’s that time of the year everybody! E3, or what I call “Yay Me! There goes my money.” On it’s first day, the floor was given to EA, and for what they lack in the sports department, they make up with other interesting additions to their schedule. Today’s highlights include mystery, graphics, and excessive violence that is rendered and generated beautifully.

As always EA isn’t without it EA Sports, and quite frankly the headliners in that department were yin and yang. Madden casually strolled on by with a replication of Denver’s playoff berth that looked really pretty, but nothing shy of that. It leaves the game open for whatever reason the buyer will choose to buy this release week. FIFA on the other hand, while it does keep the game interesting with it’s new story concept, the rehash or rather catch-up imitation of NBA 2k16’s story doesn’t justify much for it’s gameplay… unless you’re a Manchester United fan.

An interesting reveal is of the game Cuphead, which looks like it was concocted by developers on LSD attempting to play Super Mario Bros and watch Mickey Mouse cartoons. It’s that kind of game that just seems designated toward the most courageous of us. The gameplay’s trailer gives the typical play by play of the game but the music behind the whole game just equates to how brilliant this game looks like it’s going to be.

Lego is developing yet another game, but this time the world is bigger. Instead of being a Lego game designated on one world, like Marvel or Star Wars, you can use Finn and Jake from Adventure Time in Gotham. Like most of the reveals, a lot of these games just show the possibility without much in the game play department. Not much is revealed in the trailer, but the trailer speaks for itself. And Lego has the money to help make this look great.

Nothing has me more interested than Call of Cthulhu, which seems to show a mystery riddled in the stories of HP Lovecraft. I remember something similar to this in movie form with John Cusack and Edgar Allen Poe. This game definitely breathes the atmosphere it’s trying to evoke. The designs also look bleak and dimly, which might look grander when this game is released. Can’t wait.

EA has partnered up with Lucas Arts to invent new games set in the far far away galaxy. Though if they find a way to make a bomb pod racing game for the Wii U, my life would be complete. But a lot the footage reveals tantalizing visuals for games that could delve into that open world territory, which could turn out like fun. Unlike those Battlefront story modes. But this has potential and the excitement is there.

Sometimes you got to expect the unexpected, and for that EA has introduced Anarcute, a game that is a play on anarchy and cute. But other then that it is a game where you just form riots made up of cute animals and you do riot-like things with agendas. If not repetitive, it looks just too damn adorable not to pass up from this trailer.

As with the past Battlefield games, I’m not sold until I play them because it’s all in the construct of formula. The game’s basis on war leads it through a fun gameplay and online mode. Now, with the rise of first person, this new Battlefield looks to be more then your typical war game. In the gameplay trailer we see the perspective of a soldier in an airplane, shooting down a blimp. The coordination and graphics look stellar as the video plays. It’s a game that looks in tune with the fundamentality of human behavior with the graphical movements it shows.
