Brainiac Arrives In Injustice 2’s Story Trailer

Today, NetherRealm Studios and WB released a brand-new story trailer for Injustice 2, the follow up to the fighting game featuring DC Comics’ iconic superheroes. The trailer is narrated by the sequel’s villain Braniac, who is revealed towards the trailer’s end. Like the reveal video, this trailer is cinematic and does not show gameplay, but we can gleam some hints about what to expect from Injustice 2.

Naturally, DC’s trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman take the primary stage as the trailer establishes where they stand in Injustice’s warped universe. Wonder Woman fights Supergirl in shots that are cut against Superman’s instability and Batman’s implied surveillance state (not unlike what was seen at the end of The Dark Knight.) Other characters are also hinted at; such as Damian Wayne back in the Robin garb, Bane, and Poison Ivy, who did not appear in the previous title. Presumably Brainiac will be playable also, likely after completing the game’s storyline. Iconic villain Darkseid will also make an appearance, but only as a pre-order bonus for now.

As for possible mechanics, the trailer climaxes with Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman facing each other. This might point to a team mode or a four-player mode. The official synopsis points to many more modes being included versus the first Injustice, so this doesn’t feel too far off the farm. Another detail that warrants mention is that there will be three different versions of the game released. The standard release will be joined by a “Deluxe” Digital version containing special shaders for gear, and an “Ultimate” edition that bears the promise of nine DLC characters post launch. Including the pre-order Darkseid, this means that people who buy the standard edition will be missing ten characters. The deluxe and ultimate versions also include skins for a few characters that will change both the look and voice actor of certain characters.

Does this trailer get you more excited for Injustice 2, or are you still on the fence for the new DC fighter? Let us know how you feel in the comments!

Injustice 2 releases May 16th on PS4 and Xbox One.
