Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Detroit’ Trailer Looks Intense

The trailer for Detroit released today, and Kathryn Bigelow’s new movie looks intense. The two immediate takeaways are that the movie is very gritty and feels authentic. There was nonstop action and tension in the clips shown. John Boyega appeared to be one of the main leads in the film that has a strong ensemble of actors that includes Will Poulter, Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski and Jack Reynor. Also of note, it’s interesting to see a cast composed of many English actors. Poulter appears to play a bad guy cop; that’s going to be interesting.

Another thing of note is the look of the film. At first, it can easily be taken straight out of the 1967. The grainy colors and film footage looks very much straight out of that time period. The costumes looked very authentic, especially the police uniforms. I am curious to find out what is going on in that hotel that gets raided by the police, where the gun shot goes off.

Detroit is based on a true events, so that alone will make it interesting and worthwhile. Based on the events of riots and police brutality. this feels like a very timely movie. With a talented and intriguing cast and subject matter that’s relevant, Detroit could be one of the big sleepers at the end of the summer when it releases in theaters on August 4.
