Interview: Trey Edward Shults for “It Comes at Night”

There is a feeling that good horror films elicit. Something almost primal that triggers our survival instinct even though we are never really in danger. Newer horror films have been disappointing, usually more interested in cheap scares and franchising. From the studio that brought us last year’s best horror film, The Witch, A24 brings us this year’s in the form of It Comes at Night. From writer/director Trey Edward Shults, who brought us his breakout film Krisha last year, brings us an equally nuanced film. I got the chance to talk with Shults about his filmmaking process, his love of the horror genre, the deeply personal history of the It Comes at Night, and much more.
