First Picture of Leo DiCaprio in ‘J. Edgar’

Production on Clint Eastwood’s current project, J. Edgar, has started this month. The movie follows the life of J. Edgar Hoover, the director of the FBI from 1935 up until he died in 1972. There is a lot of controversy surrounding Hoover’s activities in and out of the office. Long-standing rumors have claimed that Hoover was a crossdresser and had a long term relationship with Clyde Tolsen. The film, penned by Dustin Lance Black (who won the Oscar for writing Milk), will cover all these aspects of Hoover’s life.

The cast for this film is pretty phenomenal. Leo DiCaprio will portray the title character (pictured), and Armie Hammer (The Social Network) will play Hoover’s lover, Clyde. Naomi Watts will play Hoover’s long time secretary. Judi Dench, Josh Lucas, and Ed Westwick will also star in the film.

I’m really looking forward to this movie, especially because Dustin Lance Black wrote the script. I love Black’s style, and I think Clint Eastwood would make this script come to life, like no other. The cast is great because 1. they are all talented and 2. it’s not overwhelming. It isn’t filled with “Acting’s Greats,” but a fine mix of both well known and lesser known actors. That it is always something I respected about Clint Eastwood’s films.

Do you think a year from now that J. Edgar will be a big Oscar contender?
