Alan Tudyk, Brad Garrett Picked For Live-Action “Christopher Robin” Movie

Disney’s quest to remake their classic movies continues with their next project being about the proud bear who wore nothing but a crop top with no panties and ate his favorite food.

According to CinemaBlend, the House of Mouse is planning a reboot/sequel to the beloved cartoons based on the works of A.A. Milne tentatively titled Christopher Robin. Instead of a straight-up remake following the young title character in his adventures with Winnie the Pooh, the movie will supposedly follow a grown-up Christopher Robin reuniting with Winnie and his lovable woodland friends. So far, the movie’s cast consists of Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor (TrainspottingStar Wars) as the title character and Jim Cummings voicing Winnie the Pooh as he has been doing for nearly 30 years.

Two more cast members have been announced to inhabit some classic characters. Brad Garrett will voice the somber donkey Eeyore and Alan Tudyk will voice the bright bouncing tiger Tigger (clever names, eh?). Audiences might know Garrett best as the lumbering brother Robert on the hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, while sci-fi fans recognize Tudyk from his role as the lovable pilot Wash on the short-lived cult TV show Firefly. However both actors have made their voices useful to other popular franchises, with Garrett voicing the alien villain Krang in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Tudyk voicing the deadpan Imperial robot K-2SO in the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, both 2016 releases conveniently enough.

No word as to who will be playing the rest of the classic characters, including Pooh’s tiny sidekick Piglet or the ever wise Owl. The only other major casting was Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell as a currently-unnamed character. The movie is set to be directed by Marc Forster (Finding NeverlandQuantum of SolaceWorld War Z) and written by Oscar winner Tom McCarthy (SpotlightUp) from an earlier script penned by Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up PhilipQueen of Earth). This will be the first Winnie the Pooh movie to hit theaters since the 2011 animated movie Winnie the Pooh, also released by Disney and made with the traditional animated style from the classic cartoons. This continues Disney trend of remaking its treasured animated classics after the mega-success of the Beauty & the Beast remake this year. The studio already has three planned remakes in the works, including Mulan from director Niki Caro (Whale Rider), Aladdin from director Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), and The Lion King from director Jon Favreau, who already has one successful live-action Disney remake under his belt with last year’s The Jungle Book.

Christopher Robin is still in pre-production, so no word on an anticipated release date. It’s not to be confused with Goodbye Christopher Robin, the biopic about Winnie the Pooh’s creator A.A. Milne starring Domhnall Gleeson set for release on October 13, 2017. What do you think about this casting choice and the concept of the new Winnie the Pooh movie?
