NYCC 2012: What I’m Looking Forward to Seeing

October 11-14th marks the 2012 New York Comic Con at the Javits Center in New York City, and by golly ain’t I excited! (That really works if you pull that off with a 9 year old newsboy kind of accent). Second only to the San Diego Comic Con, NYCC is sure to bring large crowds- over 100,000 people came last year.

First off, you should know what Comic Con is. It’s basically a pop culture event that features anything and everything related to entertainment matters. It offers sneak peeks at upcoming movies, games, toys and whatnots, it gives you a chance to meet some of your favorite idols and question them on their projects, and most importantly, it lets you just convey your interests with others who are just as much as interested as you are.

The usual guests will always show up, and even though you know they’re coming, it still gets you surprised when they’re announced. Stan Lee is perhaps the most well known of all guests- you see him cameo in Marvel  movies like that wedding guest in Fantastic 4 (Rise of the Silver Surfer) or the neighbor watering his plants in X3. Adam West is also famous in the comic universe, maybe perhaps most recognized as Batman in the original Batman movies.  Among others include Seth Green (doing an exclusive question and answer session for his show Robot Chicken), Christopher Lloyd (yes, Doc from Back to the Future) , Bill Paxton (in Apollo 13, the one who isn’t Tom Hanks or Kevin Bacon), Elmo (yes believe it or not, Elmo will be there), Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor in the Star Wars saga: think of the guy who, when using the force, electricity would shoot out of his hands), and more.

There are going to be some amazing panels this year as well. For one, everyone is super excited about the Walking Dead panel, which Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs, Danai Gurira, Gale Anne Hurd, Glen Mazzara, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, and of course most of the cast. A bunch of other shows will also be there, including Person of Interest, Children’s Hospital, Portlandia, The Following, Arrow, 666 Park Avenue, and more.

There will also be a couple of question and answer sessions, including those with Christopher Lloyd, MTV Geek, Sean Astin, Peter Davison, Comedy Central, Robot Chicken, Ridley Scott and Walter Simonson, Bill Paxton and John McLaughlin, Adult Swim, Rich Johnson, Tom Felton, Josh Gates, and more.

And last but not least, there are some special events taking place within the convention, like a tribute to one of my favorite authors, Ray Bradbury, a post-apocalypse now event, a Stan Lee run Superhero convention, and a “You Can’t Do That On Television” event.

Don’t forget- NYCC is almost sold out, and there’s little time before it starts! So visit the site here and find out who’s coming!
