2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards: Nominations Announced

The Independent Spirit Awards nominations were announced this morning.

This past year has been another strong one for independent films. with features like Call Me by Your Name, The Florida Project, Get Out, Lady Bird, and The Rider headlining the competition. One could also say the ISA is already looking forward to next year’s offerings by announcing Ava DuVernay as Honorary Chair ahead of her newest film, A Wrinkle In Time, which will be released in March of 2018. A24 is leading all studios with 17 nominations total.

“This year’s nominations reflect the range and vitality of artist-driven, independent film,” Film Independent President Josh Welsh said during a press conference. “Diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision are the hallmarks of the Film Independent Spirit Awards, and the films this year powerfully embody all those qualities.”

Mudbound was selected to receive the Robert Altman Award, which is bestowed upon one film’s director, casting director and ensemble cast. The Altman Award was created in 2008 in honor of legendary director Robert Altman, who was known for creating extraordinary ensemble casts.

Comedians Nick Kroll and John Mulaney will return as co-hosts. The ceremony will be broadcasted live on IFC and take place just north of the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm PT / 5:00 pm ET.
