Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play Alberto Falcone in ‘THE DARK KNIGHT RISES?’

UPDATE!! Variety is usually good at getting the inside track in the movie industry. However, they might have been wrong about who Gordon-Levitt will play in The Dark Knight Rises. Entertainment Weekly just reported that a close source says Gordon-Levitt will not be playing Alberto Falcone, but another character. So I guess it’s back up in the air. We think Variety was on the right track with Alberto Falcone. We’ll just have to wait for an official announcement.

Not only do we find out that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is locked in to star in The Dark Knight Rises, but his role has been revealed! Gordon-Levitt will be playing Alberto Falcone, the son of Mafia head Carmine Falcone. (Remember Tom Wilkinson’s character in Batman Begins?Yeah, his son…)

Alberto Falcone, who is also known as the Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan’s superhero trilogy full circle. The character fits with the helmer’s stated desire for continuity and preference to pit Bruce Wayne against “realistic” villains, as opposed to cartoonish nemeses such as Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, whom Batman battled in Joel Schumacher’s 1997 misfire “Batman and Robin.” Read more at Variety.com

Also, it’s being reported that Juno Temple is eyeing a supporting role in the film. The role is a street-smart Gotham girl, which I think would be really cool to see Temple do. Those who aren’t familiar with Temple, she played supporting roles in a few notable movies, such as Atonement and Greenberg.

What do you guys think about Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing Alberto Falcone? I think it’s the right fit, way better than the other characters he was rumored to play. I can’t wait until Christopher Nolan decides to open up a little more about the last movie and give some insight behind his choices.
