This Month in Film: January 2013 Releases

January is generally considered the dumping ground for bad movies. People are recovering from the holidays or catching up on the awards contenders. The past has shown that box office numbers slow down during this time of the year. However amidst all the bad, some great movies manage shine through. Here’s to hoping that 2013 doesn’t start off completely atrocious.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters – Another day, another fairy tale reimagining. Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner star as grown-up versions of the classic sibling duo who hunt witches. Sadly, this movie doesn’t look very good, but I hope it’s campy and entertaining. (Wide)

Parker – When it comes to Jason Statham movies, all you need to know is: It’s a Jason Statham movie. From there it’s easy to decide whether you’re interested or not. (Wide)

Movie 43 – The movie is comprised of several short and hilarious films, starring actors like Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Richard Gere, Justin Long and many, many more. The shorts are directed by Elizabeth Banks, Brett Ratner, and several other directors. I hope this is as funny as marketing is leading us to believe. (Wide)
