Our Reactions to the First Picture of Katniss Everdeen in ‘The Hunger Games’

Hunger Games fans! LET’S REJOICE!

Some of us complained, some of us thought she was too old for the part, some of us thought she was too blonde, she was too pale, but OH! Here it is the first official picture of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming issue of  Entertainment Weekly and it seems like we all LOVE it!

As you may well know by now, here at TheYoungFolks.com we just LOVE The Hunger Games books and we cannot wait for the movies! Here are our thoughts on Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss:

Lucy’s thoughts: I LITERALLY DROPPED MY PHONE when I saw the picture pop up on my Facebook newsfeed. Not only did my phone drop, but my jaw. I seriously cannot believe how identical JLaw looks like the Katniss I pictured in my mind. The hair is right, skin color is right, everything about it is just perfect! I’m loving the effort Lionsgate is putting into this franchise and how they’re taking fans suggestions and stuff *claps*. And as I was telling Gaby this morning, “the picture better be of Katniss with the bow and arrow”, and yup, exactly what we got PLUS the Mockingjay pin! I’m going to fangirl my way now all the way to March 23rd 2012. And THANK YOU, Entertainment Weekly, for this cover, I am SO buying this issue and watch me… I will get Jennifer to sign it.

Gaby’s thoughts: LOVE IT! When it was first announced that Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Katniss, I was a bit perplexed. She’s this beautiful, fair blonde, sort of the opposite of Katniss. But I knew she was a great actress and in my mind, talent trumps looks, so I gave my approval. Well, now just multipy that approval by a billion. Jennifer Lawrence looks perfect as Katniss. It’s a big smack in the face to all the haters. The hair, the face, clothing, everything is perfect about this first official Hunger Games picture. Like Lucy said, the mockingjay pins adds the right touch. I’m very happy about this picture and can’t wait to see how Peeta and Gale will look like!

Below is an excerpt of Jennifer’s interview with Entertainment Weekly. We must say that we love her enthusiasm and love for the series. It’s something that we always felt was missing from the Twilight actors. Maybe because The Hunger Games are considered better written? lol

In a free-wheeling interview, Lawrence describes her first encounter with Ross last winter, during the height of Oscar season. “He was asking me what the experience was like,” she recalls, “and I just kind of opened up and said, ‘I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.’ And we both started laughing because that’s exactly what it’s like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who’s all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, ‘Oh, no, I don’t belong here.’”

When Lawrence was offered the role, she describes her response as a mixture of elation — and desperate anxiety. “I knew that as soon as I said yes, my life would change,” she says. “And I walked around an entire day thinking ‘It’s not too late, I could still go back and do indies, I haven’t said yes yet, it’s not too late.’”

And yet, who can turn their back on Katniss? “I love this story,” she says, “and if I had said no, I would regret it every day.” After officially signing on, Suzanne Collins herself called to offer a starstruck Lawrence her most hearty congratulations. “I feel like when you said yes,” the author told her, “the world got lifted off my shoulders.”
