SDCC: 20th Century Fox’s ‘Prometheus,’ ‘In Time’ & ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’

20^th Century Fox debuted three of their upcoming films at Comic Con. The first was Prometheus, the highly anticipated Alien movie by Ridley Scott. Damon Lindelof (writer of LOST and Prometheus) was the moderator and introduced to us our first look at Prometheus. The clip started with a montage of all of Ridley Scott’s films and then proceeded to show a montage of clips from Prometheus that included scenes with actors Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron. After the clip, Theron came up on stage, talked about how she got the role and what it was like working on set.

Theron is very lively and funny. I was always a bit indifferent towards her, but now I love her. She went on to introduce Ridley Scott, who joined the panel from Iceland via satellite. He talked about the film and made a point saying that Prometheus isn’t an Alien prequel, but has some DNA of the story. Noomi Rapace joined him and talked about her experience on set. It was a great surprise for everyone, and we finally got some more insight on this highly anticipated film.

The next film was Andrew Niccol’s In Time. Niccol is famous for The Truman Show, GATTACA, and Lord of War. His next film takes place in a universe where everyone stops aging at 25 and then only have a year left to live. But time can be earned and transferred. Time is currency in this universe, and Justin Timberlake’s character is on the run after one generous man gives him a hundred more years to live. Confused? I think the trailer can explain the story a little better.

Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried got on stage to discuss the film and how it was like on set. From the trailer and what the actors discuss, the film looks very interesting. I’m a fan of Niccol’s work, so In Time is definitely on my must-see list.

The third film presented was Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Director Rupert Wyatt came onstage to introduce some new clips of the film. The new clips still don’t have me sold on the film. I will see it, but my expectations remain rather low. Later on actor Andy Serkis went on stage to extensively talk about performance capture and how it is revolutionizing film.
