This week, we got our very first look at Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters. Fans have been eagerly awaiting for Richelle Mead’s popular YA series to hit the big screen. Now with the first film in post-production, Weinstein Co. is rolling out new stills and footage from the film.

As a long time fan of Vampire Academy, I’M FREAKING OUT! Watch the new teaser trailer above and check out three new stills in the slideshow below, while I calm myself down.

For those unfamiliar with Vampire Academy, the story follows Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch), a half-vampire half-human girl, who sworn to protect her best friend Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), a Moroi (a good vampire) against anyone who will do her harm, especially Strigoi (the bad vampires). Her plans get disrupted when Dimitri Belikov (Danila Kozlovsky) hauls Rose and Lissa back to St. Vladmir’s Academy, after they had been on the run for a year. Full of forbidden romances, a high society social scene and lurking evil mystery, St. Vladmir’s is one of the most dangerous places they can be at the moment.

While there’s a ton of drama that goes down in Vampire Academy, the story has just as much humor. Talking to USA Today, director Mark Waters emphasizes how important it was to incorporate comedy into the film adaptation, “We have this great juicy drama dynamic, where the stakes are particularly high, but that didn’t keep us from wanting to inject some of the humor that comes from teenagers trying to get along.”  Zoey Deutch adds, “You root for these characters like crazy till the bitter end, but there are still laughs throughout the whole journey.”

Another promising thing about VA is their effort to stay true to Rose’s character, a girl who is a quite unique protagonist in the YA lit world.  “[Rose] has a wicked sense of humor and is openly sexual — when she likes a guy, she goes after him. It’s not at all like the shy, demure creatures you’ll meet in the YA novels,” says Waters.

I may have had some hesitations at first, but it looks like Vampire Academy is gearing up to be an awesome movie. To help you with the long wait until its February 14th release, I compiled a list of 10 Movies To Watch While You Wait for VA.
