‘Once’ Director teams up with Bono and the Edge for new musical film

The Weinstein Company just announced today that John Carney, director of Once and this years Begin Again, staring Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, will be working with U2’s Bono and the Edge on a new musical film, Sing Street. The film, about a boy named Cosmo in the 1980’s, who leaves his family life behind to start a band and move to London, takes place in Dublin and was written by Carney based on his own childhood.

An early member of the Irish band, The Frames, formed by Once star, Glen Hansard; Carney is familiar with the Dublin music scene. His movie Once went on to win an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly” and was adapted into a Broadway Musical which won eight Tony Awards.

His newest film Begin Again opens June 27th.
