Film News: ‘The Hunger Games’ trailer has finally arrived!

By: GabrielleAdelle

We’ve been anxiously awaiting The Hunger Games trailer for months and now it’s finally here! Watch it below or on iTunes trailers (We’re not sure how long the YouTube will be up).

To say that I’m amazingly, outstandingly beyond impressed would be a MAJOR understatement. I’ve gotten used to being let down by film adaptations of my favorite novels, and now I think Lionsgate has truly produced a film worthy of the fans. There’s so much I love about this trailer. We finally get to wholly see the world that director Gary Ross has created from Suzanne Collins best-selling book. In a way, it’s better than I imagined. It has the right amount of style and flourish without being too overwhelming. It just looks perfect.

The trailer also offers up a lot of emotion. In fact, it illicited more emotion from me than when I had first read the book.  It does that by showing off the performances. It is almost immediately evident that Jennifer Lawrence is impeccable as Katniss Everdeen. That scene where she volunteers for her sister breaks my heart. Those two seconds of emotion on her face has so much power, and that’s what will get audiences intrigued. Also, Josh Hutcherson shines as Peeta. He just nails that line toward the end about wanting to stay himself. The chemistry is also evident between Jennifer and him. When they look at each other at the reaping, my God, the sparks hit me. Liam Hemsworth delivered well too. In addition, Elizabeth Banks wows as Effie; Lenny Kravitz looks like a sincere Cinna; Donald Sutherland as President Snow doesn’t seem as menacing yet; whoa at Stanley Tucci’s blue wig; and I wish we saw a little more of Woody Harrelson as Haymitch.

Overall, it’s an excellent trailer. It provides enough storytelling to get new audiences to understand the story, mixing it with the right amounts of emotion, action and intrigue. This very well maybe one of the best movies of 2012. I can’t wait!
