‘Messi’ Documentary Trailer Released

Lionel Messi

Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini. That’s a name we should all know by now. The star of FC Barcelona and the Argentine National Team is currently playing in the World Cup, having his team made the cut for the quarter-finals. It will be a very exciting time for him as for his teammates. Not to many people know the real story behind ‘La Pulga’, that is why Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia (Las Brujas) decided to tell his story to the world in a small documentary.

Entitled Messi, the documentary  includes a compilation of footage from Lio’s past as well as interviews and anecdotes from managers and colleagues such as Johan Cruyff, César Luis Menotti, Jorge Valdano, Gerard Piqué, Alejandro Sabella, Andrés Iniesta and Javier Mascherano. The film was shot in Rosario, Buenos Aires and in Barcelona. It was produced by Jaume Roures (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) and it’s scheduled to be released this week in Rio de Janeiro. Even if you are not a huge football (soccer) fan, the trailer does try to get your attention by getting close to all of those people who, one way or another, are close to Messi. Looks interesting.

Messi, who turned 27  last week, won the Ballon d’Or four years in a row and in 2012 set a new record for most goals in a calendar year. While we wait for the quarter-finals to start this Friday, watch the trailer for the documentary below (with subtitles) and let us know what you think!
