A little over a year ago, here at The Young Folks I posted a review about a little animated film from Argentina called Metegol, directed by Academy Award winner Juan José Campanella. At the very end of that post, I wrote that I would keep you posted when international dates for the film were available. Well, here I am fulfilling that promise. After enjoying a wild ride in all Spanish-speaking countries and passing through a few international film festivals, I am happy to report that Metegol will have a wide release in international English- speaking markets very soon!
In the UK, the film is called The Unbeatables, and it will open this weekend in Scotland (August 8th). The rest of the UK will have to wait one more week for it (August 15th). In the USA, the film (called Underdogs) is scheduled to open on January 15th, 2015. Seems a bit far from now, but the wait is worth it.
This new English version of the film brings new voices to the ‘steel team,’ including Rupert Grint (as Amadeo), Rob Brydon, Ralf Little, Anthony Head, Peter Serafinowicz, Alistair McGowan and Eve Ponsonby. This is the first animated feature from Campanella and it’s filled with football fun for the entire family.
