Movie News: New ‘Unbroken’ Trailer Debuts

Jack O’Connell is poised to become the true, blue breakout of 2014, and deservedly so. Starred Up was a critical darling and O’Connell was phenomenal in it, giving one of the best performances of the year thus far. Unbroken will be his chance to make a mark with the mainstream.

Angelina Jolie directs the chronicle of Louis Zamperini’s life, an Olympic runner who was taken prisoner by Japanese forces during World War II. From the trailer alone it’s apparent the film has a lot of talent involved, from Jolie at the helm to O’Connell as the leading man to the writing effort from the Coen brothers. The trailer also offers up a better look at supporting characters such as the ones played by Garrett Hedlund, Domhnall Gleeson and Japanese actor Miyavi. The latter two in particular have been mentioned as potential scene stealers.

As the year has gone on and the awards movie season has come out in full swing, I’ve begun to anticipate Unbroken more and more, and this trailer only manages to create even more excitement. Check out the trailer and synopsis below.

Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit
