Golden Globes 2015: The full list of nominations

The Golden Globes may be famous for their outlandish choices of nominees (no one forgets all of those nods for The Tourist a few years back), but at least for the most part, they’ve been diverse and put the spotlight on new shows and breakout artists.

That’s still the case with this year’s nominations. The first big surprise is The CW nabbing two major nominations for its show Jane the Virgin and lead Gina Rodriguez. I was thrilled to see Jane and Gina get recognized as one of the best shows on TV now. Showtime’s The Affair is another new show that got a ton of love from the Hollywood Foreign Press. Mostly, I was just happy to see Ruth Wilson get the nod because she’s so compelling on that show and makes it worth the watch. However, I am sad that Tatiana Maslany was snubbed for her ever-impressive work on Orphan Black.

As for film, Into the Woods and Birdman dominated the Comedy/Musical categories, earning multiple nods for their stars. I haven’t seen Into the Woods yet, but I can’t imagine anything being as unique and inventive as Birdman. Boyhood continues its awards streak, a streak that it’s deserving of. And even though I haven’t seen it yet, I am excited to see Selma earn some nominations, especially after being snubbed at the SAGs yesterday. Congrats to Selma’s director, Ava DuVernay for being the first black woman director to be nominated for a Golden Globe.

The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on NBC on January 11th.
