Interview: Jonny Weston on “Project Almanac”

JWI’m just going to come right out and say how incredibly awesome Jonny Weston is. You may recognize him from previous films like Chasing Mavericks and Taken 3, but what you should really look out for is the incredibly fun Project Almanac; the time-travel film we’ve been waiting for. It is an extremely fun and energetic film that truly captures our generation with just the right amount of dramatic undertone. Don’t get me wrong, the film is flawed, however, it definitely keeps the audience interested by creating lovable characters and maintaining an intriguing story line. Not to mention how hilarious it was, the screen writing was pretty spot-on when depicting the typical high-schooler. My biggest concern was the handheld camera effect the director went for. At first, I was a little annoyed but after a while, you realized it was almost necessary to capture the essence of the movie, it wouldn’t have been the same if it was filmed in the traditional style. The movie is perfect for science lovers and non-lovers, alike. In one word, I would have to describe the film as just plain FUN!

Jonny Weston plays David Raskin, the most likable science geek you’ll ever meet. After he and his friends discover hidden blueprints to build a time machine left behind by his deceased father, they begin an unforgettable journey and make their friendship stronger than ever–with a few bumps along the way, of course.

The Young Folks was lucky enough to participate in a roundtable interview while Jonny was in Miami last week. We talk about how much of himself is in his character, who he would want to meet from the past, and what he would change about his life, even if it meant peril to everyone else. I will say this, from here on out, there may be some spoilers in the interview, so if you haven’t seen the film yet, you might want to save this for the future. It’s a great one, though. Have a listen!
