Welcome to another episode of Directors of Cinema, the podcast that highlights the careers of cinema’s most prominent directors. Each week, host Matthew Goudreau and a guest discuss selected works of a director chosen by the guest.

On this episode, host Matt Goudreau and special guest Ryan Gibbs discuss selected works from Akira Kurosawa. With a filmography as expansive as Kurosawa’s, we simply did not have the time to go through his entire career. Some of the films we discuss in this episode include:

  • Sanshiro Sugata
  • Seven Samurai
  • Throne of Blood
  • Dreams
  • Madadayo
  • Rashomon
  • Yojimbo

Throughout the show, we divulge into several conversations regarding Kurosawa’s outstanding contributions to the history of film. Specifically, we highlight his influence on Star Wars as well as his influence on numerous directors who became prominent in the 70s.
