Film News: Phillip Seymour Hoffman Offered Role in CATCHING FIRE!

According to Jeff Snieder of Variety, Phillip Seymour Hoffman has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire. Plutarch Heavensbee is the head gamemaker for the Hunger Games tournament in Catching Fire. His character plays a small, but very crucial part in the sequel. His role expands and we get to know Plutarch better in the final book, Mockingjay.

Off the bat, Hoffman is a brilliant choice for Plutarch. He looks just like I imagined the character to be and definitely has the acting chops to really make his character stand-out among the already mega-talented cast.

Variety is a credible source, so I’m feeling pretty confident that an offer has gone out to Hoffman. But will he accept? I really hope so. He just wrapped up on his stint on the revival of Death of a Salesman on Broadway. Therefore, it looks like he will be available to shoot Catching Fire. I have to admit that I was disappointed with Lionsgate’s decision to have Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) to direct the sequel. However, seeing that Lionsgate is working on adding great actors to the cast, like Hoffman, is very encouraging.

What do you think of Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing Plutarch Heavensbee and/or joining The Hunger Games cast? Sound off in the comments.
