The Second Trailer and Poster for Assassin’s Creed Sneaks Out

20th Century Fox has finally released a new trailer and poster for Assassin’s Creed, the upcoming film based on the popular Ubisoft game franchise of the same name today. Like those games, the movie is set to feature a story juxtaposed between a modern-day setting and a historical time period (in this case the Spanish Inquisition) through a science-fiction angle. The second trailer focuses much more on stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons, by inserting various dialog sections in between action sequences and fast paced music. This is fairly different from the first trailer that was far more serious in tone. However, it does seem this new trailer is far more than the teasing look and gives a far better idea of what to expect from Assassin’s Creed.

While many fans are hoping the film focuses on the story set in the past, the other notable takeaway from this trailer is that a majority of time will be spent in the present time with Fassbender’s Callum Lynch. All adaptations need to take liberties but it does seem to be a curious change, especially since the sequences featuring the Assassins seem to faithfully follow the source material and feature significantly more action.

Take a look at the poster and synopsis below and let us know if Assassin’s Creed looks exciting or should go back into the shadows!

“Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain.  Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

ASSASSIN’S CREED stars Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, La Vie en Rose). The film is directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth); produced by New Regency, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall; co-financed by RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures; and distributed by 20th Century Fox . ASSASSIN’S CREED opens in theaters worldwide on December 21st, 2016.”
