New trailer for Nocturnal Animals teases a chilling outcome

A new trailer for thriller Nocturnal Animals has been released by Focus Features today, giving wide audiences a first look at the film that set the Venice Film Festival ablaze earlier this year. The trailer shows both the beginning and end of the relationship that forms the film’s backbone while suggesting that not everything is what it seems. The trailer also includes scenes of the story that is inserted into the main narrative, a story written by Jake Gyllenhaal’s character that will feature most of the supporting cast and serves as a possible threat to his ex-wife, played by Amy Adams.

While it is obviously a good idea to not reveal too much with the first trailer, it does seem clear that Nocturnal Animals is heading down a far more sinister path than its source material; the 1993 novel Tony and Susan. Both Gyllenhaal and Adams stand out quite a bit here also as they seem to be stretching expectation: Gyllenhaal as a lovestruck but rejected writer and Adams as a woman who may be more guilty than it appears are not what audiences would normally see these two play. This film looks like one to definitely be on the lookout for.

Directed and written by Tom Ford, Nocturnal Animals will see a release in select cities November 18th ahead of a wide release on December 9th.
