The Trailer for Netflix’s The Discovery is to Die for

Coming off of a successful high from the grim and quirky A Series of Unfortunate Events, Netflix has proven that it will start the year off with enthralling entertainment (at least until the next Adam Sandler sponsored monstrosity rears its ugly head). Although they have proven to be an unstoppable juggernaut when it comes to long form entertainment, their films have been more than a little underwhelming. This year’s line of films are so eclectic and original that they will either be wildly entertaining or oddly off-putting. That includes the live-action, American remake of the popular Death Note manga and anime series.

Speaking of death, the trailer for The Discovery has been released and it is as eery as the synopsis would suggest. A group of scientists have proven the existence of an afterlife. You would think that would be a cause for celebration, but it has created one fatal problem. Knowing that something better exists after death, what is the real point of living? Amongst the millions of people committing suicide, the story will also center around a love story. If the complete oddity of the premise isn’t enough to pique your interest, the cast will. The film stars Jason Segel, Rooney Mara, Robert Redford, Riley Keough and Jesse Plemons, and is directed by Charlie McDowell, who created the mindfuck that was The One I Love.

Unless you’re going to be at Sundance, you’ll have to wait until March 31st to see it on Netflix. Just enough time to mentally prepare for what will likely be a mindbending experience. For now, wrap your head around the trailer below.
