Film News: Looks like there’s a Doctor in the house for ‘Thor 2’.

Coming off of the huge success of The Avengers, Thor 2 is well on its way. So far, the sequel is titled Thor: The Dark World and is in pre-production with plans on shooting in Iceland very soon. While most of the main cast from the first movie will come back and reprise their roles from the first film there is also a new addition for the film. An addition that may please Sci/Fi fans worldwide.

Yes, Christopher Eccleston has joined the cast of Thor: The Dark World. Sci/Fi fans will be familiar with what might possibly be Eccleston’s biggest role as the Ninth Doctor in the cult classic show “Doctor Who”. He may have had a short run as the Doctor but Eccleston is no stranger to the big screen. He had a role in the G.I Joe film G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra as Cobra villain Destro.

As for Eccleston’s role in Thor: The Dark World, he will reportedly play the villain Malekith the Accursed. For fans unfamiliar with the comics, Malekith the Accursed is known to be the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim (another realm in the Thor universe). It’s unclear what dastardly deeds Malekith will be up to in the film, but in the comic books he aligns himself with the mischievous Loki to cause havoc for Thor, so that may be the plan for Malekith in the sequel.

Don’t worry about Loki Laufeyson being pushed to side for Malekith in the sequel, Loki fans. Tom Hiddleston let MTV in on what he plans on doing with his Norse god character . “I’d like to take [Loki] to his absolute rock bottom. I’d like to see him yield, essentially, to his darkest instincts. Then, having hit rock bottom, maybe come back up.”

Thor: The Dark World is set to release on November 8th, 2013.

Are you excited about the Ninth Doctor joining the Marvel Universe? What would you like to see in the sequel?
