Ansel Elgort takes the wheel in Edgar Wright’s ‘Baby Driver’

In Edgar Wright we trust. Do I trust him enough to believe that Ansel Elgort makes for a good leading man? I’m not so sure but if SXSW first reactions are anything to go by, it would seem that fans of the director are in for yet another treat with his latest film, Baby Driver.

The trailer certainly offers up a taste of what is sure to be a high octane ride with a colorful cast of characters with an eclectic cast including John Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Lily James and more. With a film that’s completely driven by music (a theme that’s permeated throughout all of Wright’s films but maybe not to this extent) there’s a specific energy that flows through the screen throughout the trailer, making the August release date seem impossibly far away.

Wright’s first outing since Scott Pilgrim vs. The World to be films without the Cornetto Trilogy context and his first solo penned script, perhaps this will be the film that alerts more of the general public of how special a gift Wright is to the film industry. With a clear, distinct and masterfully dexteric directors eye, Wright is easily one of the most talented and innovative directors of his generation.

Check out the synopsis below.

A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Baby Driver hits theaters August 11th, 2017.
