‘Black Mass’ trailer shows an unrecognizable Johnny Depp

Black-Mass-Trailer

Just when you thought about putting your Oscar-radar down for a few weeks, a new trailer comes out and shakes it all up. Which trailer is that you say? Why, Scott Cooper‘s (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace) Black Mass, of course. The film, starring the one and only Johnny Depp, chronicles the life of Whitey Bulger, one of the most infamous figures in American organized crime. Are you intrigued?

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.

The film is based on the 2001 book ‘Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob‘ written by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill. Just seeing this two-minute preview will shock you, especially by all the tension and incredible performance by Depp, keeping the trailer simple and not giving much of the story away. I know, it’s too early to tell…but I think this might be the role Mr. Depp has been waiting for.
