Coming Soon: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

The-Incredible-Burt-Wonderstone-bannerBefore I even begin, I honestly thought this was going to be another one of those comedies that make you chuckle a bit but they’re too immature to acknowledge as a movie worth seeing. But when I saw that trailer, I realized it’s actually a smart comedy and worth seeing, even though I can detail the plot for you: Steve Carell and Jim Carrey have a stand-off where Carell wins and gets the girl, played by Olivia Wilde.

According to the official website, the real plot is: “Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other. Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.”

Coming out March 15th, the film obviously stars Steve Carell as magician Burt Wonderstone, with Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey as magicians as well. It also stars Olivia Wilde as assistant Jane, Alan Arkin as Rance Holloway and James Gandolfini as Doug Munny. Many also are excited for Don Scardino as director, as he is known for 30 Rock as well as The West Wing, mostly because this will be his feature directorial debut. (And because it was just announced he would also be directing the remake of Going in Style). Also proving to be quite a hilarious comedy to go see, the script was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the writers behind comedy hit Horrible Bosses.

I say it’s a go-see – maybe you don’t have to go to the movies to watch it and wait for DVD, but you still should give it a try. But honestly, you should, and this is probably the 30 Rock fan in me. It’s also important to note that Buscemi is awesome at comedy- I mean, just watch this clip of him on the show. Seeing some of your favorite serious actors like Buscemi and Arkin in a comedy is a new twist, and it helps that Carrey is in something that’s actually funny and entertaining.

But I guess we’ll just have to wait a few months to see how well it works out. For now, watch the trailer and some pretty funny faces below.
