Film News: New ‘Beauty & the Beast’ Adaptation Will Star Vincent Cassel & Léa Seydoux

The fairy tale re-adaptations keep on coming! This time Silent Hill director Christophe Gans will be bringing a new Beauty and the Beast to the big screen. It will star French actors Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Léa Seydoux (Midnight in Paris, Mission Impossible 4). Although it doesn’t mention specifically if they’ll be playing the title roles, we’re sure it’s safe to assume that they are. Plus, look at them! Seydoux is obviously beautiful, and Cassel has very handsome wolf-ish features. They are quite perfect for the parts.

Here is what Christophe Gans has to say about the project that will reportedly start filming in October:

“Although I will keep to a form of storytelling of this timeless fairy tale that is in keeping with the same pace and characters as the original, I will surprise the audience by creating a completely new visual universe never experienced before and produce images of an unparalleled quality… Every single one of my movies has presented me with a challenge but this one is, by far, the most exciting and rewarding.”

As you may have heard last year, it was reported that Guillermo del Toro was also working on a re-adaptation of Beauty and the Beast and Emma Watson was attached to star in it. I’m pretty sure these are two different projects; I can’t say for certain though. But if they are, it’s a possiblity to that we may actually get two Beauty and the Beast movies! Just like the two Snow Whites we are getting this year, it’s kind of insane how obsessed Hollywood is getting with fairy tales. Although, I can’t say that I won’t mind two Beauty and the Beasts.

Leave a comment with your thoughts on the new fairy tale re-adaptations.
