First Trailer For ‘The Accountant’ Is A Masterclass In Intrigue

Wow. I’ve been aware of The Accountant for quite some time as it unites Ben Affleck with director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle and Warrior), but I did not expect it to look as amazing as it does. If nothing else, this is one of the most well-edited trailers I’ve seen in a very long time. So many trailers for thrillers will just go through the film beat by beat, leaving nothing to the imagination. However, this one is more of a mood piece, and it’s brilliant. It’s an ominous look into the life of Chris (Affleck), a genius-level accountant who finds himself embroiled into the world of crime while barely holding on to his sanity with his obsessive personality. Affleck isn’t given a word of dialogue here, but he doesn’t need one. The way the other characters (played by a stacked supporting cast including Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons and Jon Bernthal) talk about him is enough to wonder exactly what he is capable of. Also, the use of Radiohead’s Everything Is In Its Right Place is both unique and fitting (see that Assassin’s Creed? It can be done). This has gone from a movie that was just riding my radar, to being one of my most anticipated for the rest of the year. Hopefully, it will deliver.

The Accountant opens on October 14th.
