Night of the Living Laugh: RiffTrax Live for One Night Only!

I can’t imagine a life (or afterlife) without zombies in it. It has became such a pervasive force in popular culture, and for that you can thank master of horror George A. Romero. His iconic 1968 (yes, the black and white one) zombie film Night of the Living Dead not only mainstreamed zombies, but also showed us that horror movies can have a political and social commentary. Now you can enjoy this cult classic with a brand new commentary we have yet to see: humorous.

Sometimes, there are films that are so bad that they are irredeemable, but that’s where the pros at Mystery Science Theater 3000, aka MST3K, come in. They can turn even the worst movie into a hilarious affair. We’ve seen this done before with such great classics as Teenagers From Outer SpaceSoultaker, and Time of the Apes. If they can work their comedic magic on mediocre films you’ve never heard of before, imagine what they can do with a film the caliber of Night of the Living Dead.

Rifftrax will now make all your dreams come true. For those of you unaware of the glory that is Rifftrax here is a quick history. In the beginning, there was man and there were robots. They united for the good of humankind by turning the most horrible, terrible, no-good films into something supremely watchable. And for a few seasons, life was good. Then, a cancellation of epic proportions occurred before the beginning of the new millennium and MST3K was no more, but that wouldn’t last long…

For years, there was a gap in the entertainment industry that could only be filled by the comedic styles of some familiar friends. So in 2006, 3 of the head honchos from MST3K got together and created Rifftrax, a company that creates all the commentary the you know and love, but now you can also get it for contemporary films and not just older ones.

So now we return to the present, where Rifftrax and Fathom Events have joined forces to tackle the juggernaut horror classic, Night of the Living Dead. If you’re like me, you watch this film at least once a year like I do. It never fails to satisfy my appetite. This year is different. We are being given a rare opportunity to see the film that we know with the commentary we have come to love just in time for Halloween. There is only one caveat; an event this epic is being for one night only, October 24, 2013. Good news is that it is being done in multiple theaters. This event is practically mandatory for any horror or MST3k fan. I have my ticket already, so to get yours and find the nearest theater to you check out the Fathom Events website.
