Godzilla Resurgence Trailer Released

Godzilla met his 60th anniversary two years ago with Gareth Edwards’ Hollywood revitalization of the world’s most famous monster, and this month in Japan with the release of his first feature film with the original studio, Toho co., since 2004.

The co-director of the new entry in the franchise, Godzilla Resurgence, is none other than animation veteran of Gainax studios and revered storyteller Hideaki Anno. Anno, possibly among the biggest fans of Godzilla and Toho’s other giant monsters, is most known for his work on the animated series Neon Genesis Evangelion, a show that, through a toxic production and a cut budget, took the world by storm by it’s conclusion in 1996 for its re-evolution of giant robot anime through deliberately built atmosphere and characters with depression and anxiety to such an extent that was unheard of for any kind of television production in the 1990’s.

This trailer for Godzilla Resurgence, like the two brief teasers before it, ooze the influence of Anno’s direction and art style: from the ominous orchestrated music, to the fleshy nuclear decay to Godzilla’s design and explosive force of artillery against the gargantuan force of nature.

The film released in Japan on Friday June 29th, and will soon follow with a release in up to 100 other territories, including North America.
