After months of anticipation, Chris Pratt (riding high off the “LEGO Movie’s” incredible success, and deservedly so) went on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tonight and brought us an extended look at his next big screen offering by presenting the full trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy”. This movie is hotly-anticipated, and after watching the trailer, you can definitely see why.

Introduced in 2008 by Marvel, “Guardians” has been building up a strong following. So strong, that in 2010, just two short years after introducing the characters, murmuring of a movie was already making the rounds. See, it was feasible because back then “Iron Man 2” was getting ready to come out and kick off what soon became incredible success for Marvel. Shortly, we saw the birth of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Guardians” (their tenth installment in the MCU) is set to be a part of “Phase 2”, leading to “The Avengers 2”.

The story in the film has some differences from that of the comics, but it essentially leads to the same objective: protecting the galaxy. Directed by James Gunn and set in outer space, “Guardians of the Galaxy” sees Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), an American pilot, steal an orb that is highly sought after by a man named Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). He quickly becomes the subject of a manhunt, and Quill finds himself having to team up with a… “diverse” group of misfits in order to evade the clutches of Ronan. Soon, Quill, or “Star-Lord” as he likes to call himself, finds out the true power that the orb holds and realizes that the fate of the galaxy is (quite literally) in his hands.

Apart from Pratt the rest of the team consists of Zoe Saldana as Gamora, David Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel as Rocket Raccoon and Groot respectively. Beyond all that star power, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, and Benicio Del Toro (as seen in the post-credits of Thor 2) also have significant roles.

The film is looking like it’s going to be another crazy installment in the Marvel Universe, with lots of laughs and action to match.

The film will be released on August 1st, 2014.
