Harry Styles announces debut solo album

Harry Styles will be the second member of One Direction to release a solo album when his debut self-titled effort drops on May 12.

The album is executive produced by Jeff Bhasker, who is best known for his work with Kanye West, Bruno Mars, fun. and Pink. It will be released through Columbia Records on digital download, CD and vinyl; All three formats can be pre-ordered through Styles’ website.

Styles’ album follows the release of former One Direction member Zayn Malik’s debut album Mind of Mine last March. Since the band’s hiatus in early 2016, two other members of the group have released solo material. Naill Horan was first out of the gate with his debut single “This Town” in September. Louis Tomlinson followed in December with “Just Hold On”, a collaboration with EDM DJ Steve Aoki.

On April 7, Styles released his first solo single, the nearly six-minute “Sign of the Times” to critical acclaim and comparisons to David Bowie and Robbie Williams. Today, the song debuted at number one on the UK Singles Charts and it is possible that it could match that feat on the Billboard Hot 100 when the new chart is announced on April 18. An official video for the song has yet to be released, but he will perform it on the April 15 edition of Saturday Night Live.
