Phoenix Announce New Album, “Ti Amo” + Release New Song

One of my favorite French bands is finally making a come back this year! Phoenix announced a few days ago the release of their sixth studio album, Ti Amo, for June 9th through Glassnote Records. After waiting for almost four (long) years, their upcoming album succeeds 2013’s Bankrupt!, a record that left us with memorable songs such as “Entertainment” and “Trying to Be Cool.”

As its title states, Phoenix dedicates Ti Amo (“I Love You” in Italian) to Italy. In fact, the band explains in a press release that this new record is about “simple, pure emotions: love, desire, lust, and innocence“. They emphasize that the album will carry sounds from their European and Latin roots. Ti Amo was recorded in Paris in late 2014, and according to a recent New York Times article, the album “hints at a darkness that surrounded the group while it recorded in Paris during a turbulent time, as its hometown absorbed a swell of refugees, underwent a surge in alt-right sentiment and endured terrorist attacks.”

Along with the news of a new album, the band also released the first single of the record as a small “musical appetizer”. “J-Boy” is a mid tempo love song that carries a funk and post-disco sound, making it fun to listen from start to finish. It will begin to grow on you from just one listen. Trust me.

The French quartet is also scheduled to embark, starting on May 12, on a World Tour  that will include cities in North America, Spain, France, Portugal,  Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan and England.
