This is Pop? Podcast Episode 1: Talking Heads

We’re launching a new music podcast here at The Young Folks this weekend, and it’s a project that we’ve been planning for a few months. The show is called This is Pop? Podcast (after the XTC song), and in each episode, I – TYF music editor Ryan Gibbs – will be joined by another staffer or invited off-site guest to discuss the entire career of a specific artist.

For the inaugural installment, I was joined by TYF music writer Matt Rice to discuss the discography of Talking Heads, from their debut album to their final singles. We also briefly discussed the career of the late Jonathan Demme, who directed the Talking Heads’ concert film Stop Making Sense and who died earlier in the day that we recorded this episode (April 26, 2017).

As this is the first episode of the podcast, we’re still figuring out what format will work best for the show. As such, the approach that we take may seem a little scattershot. Also, please mind some of the technical and sound glitches that we ran into in the recording this time out (particularly the sound on my end).

You can listen to (and download) the first episode of TYF’s This is Pop? Podcast below via Soundcloud.
