Music News: Brand New release first album in eight years

The wait is over for fans of Brand New, as the band have finally released their much anticipated fifth album.

The Long Island, N.Y.-based alt-rockers released Science Fiction through their own Procrastinate! Music Traitors label on Aug. 17. The album is their first full length release since 2009’s Daisy.

Although the band has continued to tour since the promotion for Daisy wrapped up in 2010, they had only released two new single before this week: “Mene” in 2015 and “I Am a Nightmare” in 2016. Neither song appears on the tracklist for Science Fiction.

The band has hinted about the impending release of their fifth album over the past few weeks, which culminated in an announcement on Aug. 15 that they were taking pre-orders for an album to be released in October. Two days later, just before the album was formally announced, some of the fans who had pre-ordered the album received a CD containing the entire album written to a single track.

Science Fiction can be purchased from the Procrastinate! Music Traitors website on vinyl, CD and digital download. The vinyl and CD releases include an instant download of the album, but the physical copies will not be shipped until October. The album is also available on all streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music.

You can listen to one of the songs from the album, “Out of Mana”, below.
