San Francisco isn’t the only city with a catchy tune from the Mowgli’s. Move over San Francisco and make room for “Kansas City” which appears on The Mowgli’s new four song EP I Was Starting to Wonder. The EP is an uplifting bit of music you need to listen to during times when you need to just turn off all the negativity in the world. With tracks like “I Feel Good About This” and “Best of Us”, the Mowgli’s take us out of reality for a short time to remind us of the good things in life. We had a chance to talk to one of the six band members, Josh Hogan, just after their release. Check it out below.
The Young Folks: First off, with summer wrapping up pretty soon and being that your EP gives us major summer vibes, how has The Mowgli’s summer been this year? What have you guys been up to (other than releasing the EP)?
Joshua Hogan: Our summer has been great. We’ve been home more than usual, working on new songs & getting to see our friends and family a little more.
TYF: Now that I Was Starting to Wonder is out is it too early to ask about the future of more new songs whether it is published as an EP, individually, or a full on album?
JH: We’re sort of on an EP kick right now. We love the idea of releasing music more often, so you can count on more to come.
TYF: We’re loving the EP now that we mentioned it. How did you all come about figuring out which tracks will make the cut and which you had to let go of?
JH: It’s been great being more independent, & being able to decide what songs we release and when. We get together and listen to all of the new songs, then decide as a group what we want to release. It’s always good to have a few B-sides in the pocket for special releases.
TYF: I had to ask – with one song in the books about San Francisco and now Kansas City, will there be future songs in the works about different cities that you’ve been in?
JH: We’ve talked about writing songs for other cities. There are so many cities that we love and that deserve songs written, but as of now we don’t have anything in the works. That could change very quickly.
TYF: In November, you guys will be doing a 6-stop tour on the West Coast. What are you guys doing now to get ready for those shows? Why did you decide to do a smaller tour versus going across the country?
JH: Up until this year we have been touring almost non stop. For now we’re focusing on doing smaller runs and releasing music more frequently. We need a little break from the constant moving, but we will definitely tour the country again.
TYF: As a band, you’ve gone on crazy huge stages and are now taking on smaller stages. Why do you think it’s important for you all to go back to basics right this moment?
JH: We love putting on smaller, more intimate shows for our fans. These shows are a little more personal than a larger venue show. It makes for a really special evening for everyone involved.

TYF: You’ve released a lot of music, experienced a lot of changes and more of the past few years as a band. What are some of the biggest things you’ve learned about yourself during this time?
JH: We’ve all learned the importance of family. We’ve learned how to share small spaces, to always be professional, never to compare yourself to other people & and not taking things personally to name a few…
