Interview: Sech’s Cinderella Story From Panama

Having already delivered hit songs with artists such as Farruko, Nicky Jam and Maluma, Panamanian artist Sech is looking to leave his imprint in the urban music genre with his new album Suenos (Dreams).

We at the Young Folks had the great pleasure of sitting down with Sech, as we talked about his new album, his start in music and his future plans following Suenos.

Now while Sech has already worked with renowned artists, Sech’s road to prosperity was completely unexpected. Working in construction back in Panama, Sech never thought his dreams of becoming an artist would come to fruition.

“I always wanted it to happen (being an artist). But I never had the conviction that it would… It’s just in that time I was doing construction and doing other things. But if you see yourself at 12 in the morning with a shovel and mixing concrete I don’t think you have in mind that your life will change in an instant.”

Two of Sech’s most recent songs Solita (34 Million Views) and Que Mas Pues (18 Million Views) have both taken YouTube by storm. The latter doing so in the span of just two weeks.

While it’s certainly not uncommon seeing a rising talent deliver a few hit songs, what is uncommon is having that artist being sought after by some of the genre’s biggest stars. His most recent single “Que Mas Pues” is a remix that features Maluma, Nicky Jam, Farruko, Justin Quiles, Dalex and Lenny Tavarez.

Sech’s talent is undeniable given his mixture of smooth vocals and urban beats, and that alone makes him a prime candidate for artists to want to collaborate with him. But what truly gravitates people to Sech is the respect they hold for him as not just an artist but as the humble man that he is.

“There are great artists out there that make hit music and don’t have respect. Cause respect is everything. If you’re not making hit music, at the moment, all that you have left before you make another hit song is the respect you’ve earned over time.”
