It was announced last month that The Strokes are releasing their fifth studio album in the spring of this year.
The Strokes are suddenly coming back into the scene with ‘Comedown Machine’, from which we’ve now been able to hear two new singles:
“One Way Trigger” was released on the band’s website in late January available to download for free. Expectations were high, and the song ultimately has the same pop-synth sound that was present throughout ‘Angles.’ This is quite possibly one of the songs that never made it onto that album, as they mentioned upon the release of their 2011 album that they had a lot of extra material.

In Mid-February, the album’s official single, “All The Time” was published and is now available for purchase on iTunes. The song makes a return to the garage-rock roots of the first two albums. Many who listen to it may be reminded of “The End Has No End” from ‘Room on Fire.’

The band laid the foundation of the Indi-rock genre early last decade with a cool, garage band sound that the world flocked to.
The band’s 2001 debut album, “Is This It” was ranked in the top 200 of Rolling Stones’ Greatest Albums of All Time. Instant popularity followed their acclaim, and The Strokes toured the globe on the heels of their first album’s release.
Their 2003 followup album, ‘Room On Fire’ is considered underrated by fans; it was critically praised but not commercially successful. In 2006 came ‘First Impressions of Earth,’ their third album received mixed reviews, but topped the charts in the United States and the UK, and one last national tour before the band took a long break….
Casablancas cleaned up his act and released a solo album ‘Phrazes for the Young,’ in 2009.
The Strokes suddenly burst back into the spotlight with ‘Angles’ in spring of 2011 with an exciting new single, “Under Cover of Darkness,” inciting a new energy into the band’s overall sound. Their use of the 70’s synth-pop sound that Casablancas adopted for ‘Phrazes,’ however, wasn’t trending with as many fans as what might have expected.
Either way, any time The Strokes come around with a new album, they don’t knock on the door. They just tear it down.
