Music News: Arctic Monkeys Release “Arabella” Video

The Arctic Monkeys released their new video for the fifth single off of AM, “Arabella,” via their Facebook and Twitter this morning. All of the tracks from AM have a dark sensuality to them, and “Arabella” is no different. This video takes that dark sensuality and brings it to a new level—it features shots of naked ladies interspersed between clips of the band performing, earning the video a parental advisory warning as  its opening.

The video continues the vintage aesthetic they’ve been cultivating recently—this time Alex Turner’s pompadour, the band’s slightly disheveled suits, and the monochromatic film are obviously set in the past. The band is playing in the middle of a party taking place in the 1950’s or early 1960’s, surrounded by appropriately dressed guests partying. This is me, wanting to be there for that fictional moment in the past.

The video is shot so that it looks like you can see the individual film frames moving, which was a cool way to further commit to the vintage feel. However, there are jerky freezing/rewinding moments make it seem as if the video is buffering incorrectly so that the dialogue doesn’t match up with the picture, so that part isn’t perfect for me.

I fully appreciate the vintage feel the Arctic Monkeys have been embracing for this whole album and hope it continues for any more AM singles that may be released. You know, because five singles from one album just isn’t enough for me.
